Case study 1 – ASDA Wal-Mart
Client objectives:
- Group ultimate objective of 100% renewable energy worldwide (stated by CEO, 2005)
- UK initial strategy to install large-scale wind turbines on distribution centres, to provide material-scale embedded green energy generation
- Other renewable energy and energy efficiency measures being delivered in parallel
Green Peninsula work has included:
- Development of UK on-site wind business strategy
- Feasibility and business case work to establish initial portfolio of 6 sites, and development of case for capital investment approval from Wal-Mart board in USA
- Managed development of the portfolio to planning permission and grid connection agreement, including extensive negotiations with statutory consultees and planning authorities to resolve development challenges
Case study 2 – International Manufacturing and Retail Co
Client objectives:
- Corporate objective of 100% renewable energy worldwide, and to improve return on profits invested through building a financially strong renewable energy portfolio
- Strategy to establish a portfolio of c.700MW of off-site wind projects in Europe
- Other renewable energy and energy efficiency measures being delivered in parallel
Green Peninsula work has included:
- Development of European off-site wind business strategy, working directly with group property and financial directors
- Established new development site opportunities in France, Poland, Portugal and Belgium (including feasibility searches, and knocking the doors of local councils and landowners)
- Established local partnership teams
- Sourcing and due diligence for construction ready acquisition opportunities
- Due diligence for the successful acquisition of a portfolio of operating projects, completed in summer 2009
Case study 3 – International Telecoms Co
Client objectives:
- Strategic objective to off-set 50% of their global carbon emissions
- Interested in carbon credit backed wind power in India
- Other renewable energy and energy efficiency measures being delivered in parallel
Green Peninsula work has included:
- Worked with the CSR team to understand their key drivers
- Carried out an economic analysis of the business case for investing capital in carbon credit generating projects in India (a potential asset), versus just buying credits (a liability). This included establishing local partners in India to obtain key market information
- The resulting report went to group board level
Other work
UK Water Company
Review of a land portfolio of over 1500 sites to select priority sites for development and assistance with the preparation and presentation of a business case to meet corporate investment requirements. Development of an initial portfolio of medium-scale on-site wind projects.
International Industrial Processing Company
We have been developing a portfolio of 1 to 2 turbine projects on their sites, which are UK top tier COMAH regulated.
International Manufacturing Company
Feasibility, business case development, and initial development of a multi-turbine on-site wind project, on a very large UK manufacturing plant.
The Cornwall Light & Power Company
Development and construction management services to this UK wind developer, which is a subsidiary of an AIM listed renewable energy fund (Renewable Energy Generation). Our activities have include managing the construction of 4 UK wind projects, managing the successful development of a green field UK wind project, and a range of technical development services.
Carbon arm of a global logistics company
Advised on the potential development of a substantial portfolio of brown-field wind projects, including feasibility and initial development on a portfolio of priority sites.
